Matt Hutchinson
Myotherapist
I grew up riding dirt bikes, I found rock climbing as the addictive sport that it is in my early 20’s and, to make matters worse, also started enjoying long distance running in my 30’s. It’s easy to say that I’ve experienced my fair share of injuries, aches and pains over the years from all of these sports. I have a personal understanding of short term and chronic pain and the effects that it has on people both physically and mentally. I apply this experience to all of my treatments and work alongside my clients to help resolve their pain and get them back to doing what they love as soon as possible.
What To Expect:
An initial appointment will consist of a thorough health history of yourself and about your pain, followed by a thorough physical assessment. This assessment will focus on specific functional movements, strength tests and range of motion tests associated with your pain. This assessment varies with the severity of your pain and how long you have been experiencing it.
After this assessment I get into some physical treatments which can include dry needling, shockwave therapy, joint mobilisations and soft tissue release. Finally, you will without a doubt, be sent home with some rehab exercises to do between appointments.
Follow-up appointments involve a catch up on where your pain is currently at, re-assessment of your painful/weak movements to assess the effectiveness of my treatments/your exercises to make sure we are on the right track and then we get right back in to treating and the rehab exercises. As your pain reduces, we can also look further into your overall function and movement to get to the root cause of when you were experiencing pain in the first place.
Treatment and Rehabilitation Methods:
My treatments can vary widely depending on your pain or movement dysfunction and what treatments are indicated for your condition. I can treat using joint and nerve mobilisations, myofascial and electrotherapeutic dry needling, shockwave therapy, myofascial cupping and soft tissue techniques.
My rehab has a strong focus on stability and mobility. A joint or functional system needs to be stable before it can be loaded and instability is the cause of a lot of musculoskeletal pain.
I also have a passion for overall wellness and life balance. I try my best to work with my clients, their goals for their treatments and how I can help get them back doing what they love or help achieve their goals.
Conditions I Can Treat:
I can work with anyone to help improve their pain and functional movements. I don’t just focus on climbers and people that are serious athletes, I’m a weekend warrior myself so I understand the demands of sitting at a desk during the week, wanting to perform on the weekends and the aches and pains that come with both sides of the coin. I can work with you to resolve neck and back pain, shoulder dysfunctions, tendonitis, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, finger pain, golfers elbow, tennis elbow, tendon strains and tears, Achillies tears and strains, ACL and meniscus tears, the list goes on. I can also help resolve simple movement restrictions or range of motion deficiencies. Pain doesn’t always need to be involved.
